Currently this is the newest consumer drone model released by Yuneec. The Yuneec Typhoon Q500 G seems larger than my prior DJI Phantom and it also seems much more sturdy.

For anyone who already owns a Gopro camera, this new Typhoon G looks like it is the best choice for getting into very stable aerial photography.

The Typhoon G Gopro ready drone offers a number of features that some of the major drone manufacturers are still developing. Personally, I like to follow me mode, watch me function and the Smart Circle function. All these new pre-programmed functions added greatly to the aerial photography capabilities of the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 G. Plus, they have an additional function called geo-fence that can keep the Typhoon Q500 G within a 300 foot barrier from the pilot. this is a good safety feature idea and a great function to use when learning to fly this model.

Prior to the release of this new model drone there was talk that it would include two batteries and also the possibility that it would include a metal carrying case. The reason for this speculation was because some of the other Typhoon models were offered with these options as a kind of package deal. below is the packing list from I just received Typhoon G, and there was only one battery listed and no metal carrying case.

When compared to my prior DJI Phantom drone, which was white, the Typhoon G looks much better in its black and gray coloring. Plus, it will definitely be easier to see when flying when compared to the white Phantom.

The Yuneec Typhoon G comes with what they call a steady-grip, this is a handle that you can snap off the camera gimbal and just snap it onto this handle thereby giving you the functionality of a hand-held stabilizer when walking around with your go pro camera.

I’ve been through a number of drones and as a San Diego real estate broker I really hope that the FAA clarifies and allows their use in marketing real estate without having to get any special licensing. For now it’s best just to use these aerial drones for recreational hobby purposes. Now, with that said I believe we are only months away for the final ruling from the FAA. Rumors on the Internet on the FAA drone ruling seemed to indicate that drones that are under 5 pounds in weight, are always kept in visual operating range and do not exceed 500 feet in altitude may be exempt from the more stringent rules that the larger drones may have to comply with.

So if your real estate agent should you consider getting this Typhoon G drone? my answer is definitely yes if you already own a Gopro Hero camera. if you don’t only go pro camera already the Yuneec Typhoon has other models that already come with built-in cameras all the way up to 4K. *See ad below

It won’t take very long to master the fine controls of this drone and if you film local landmarks  and neighborhoods from an aerial perspective and then publish these videos on YouTube and your blog, that could really increase your traffic and reinforce your reputation as a neighborhood real estate expert. Naturally, not being an attorney I would suggest any Realtor considering this type of use to first check with their own legal counsel to be sure that it is not considered a commercial use by the FAA.
